University of Connecticut Alumni Quadrangle: Brock/Eddy & Watson/Belden Halls
Alumni Quadrangle is one of the closest residence halls to campus (classrooms, etc.). Watson and Belden are single sex by floor. Eddy and Brock are co-ed by floor. There are an average of 44 residents per floor, except the first floor of each building has 22 residents. Each floor has a single RA room, an additional single room, sixteen traditional double occupancy rooms, and two triple rooms.
A laundry and a storage room are located on the ground floor of each building. There are three entrances located on the ground floor. Each building has two elevators. There is one large study room located in the main floor of each building; as well as soda and candy vending machines. There is a kitchenette on the main floor of each building with a sink, stove, microwave, and refrigerator.
As part of the ongoing modernization campaign at the campus, each dormitory building in the quad was renovated over the summer while school was out of session. The contracts were let in blocks of two, with Brock and Eddy Halls being done in the summer of 2003. The Whiting Turner Contracting Company was the successful general contractor for all four hall renovations. The primary electrical contractor for these buildings was McPhee Electric Ltd., Native Sons Ltd was subcontracted to perform the life-safety, fire alarm and voice evacuation portions of the project. All of the floors on each building were brought up to current ADA and NFPA codes. Selected rooms were designated as handicapped for the inclusion of additional alarm notification devices. The project was performed under stringent time constraints and was completed ahead of schedule.
